Clophy C. McKervey, age 86 of Cheboygan passed away Sunday, December 4, 2011 at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey. She was born July 7, 1925 in Cheboygan to John and Felicity (Douglas) Sova. On October 20, 1945 in Cheboygan, Clophy married Aloysius McKervey who preceded her in death on June 1, 1996.
Guided by her love for God, Clophy was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She dedicated her life to raising her six children and touched many throughout her life. Her smile will be missed. Clophy worked at Community Memorial Hospital as a Nurses’ Aide, cleaned private houses as well as the rectory at St. Charles Catholic Church and catered with Stella Robiadek. She was a dedicated member of St. Mary/St. Charles Catholic Church, the Daughters of Isabella, St. Theresa Circle and the VFW Ladies Auxilliary. She enjoyed embroidery, playing cards, bowling, reading and watching the Detroit Tigers.
Survivors include her six children, Edward (Claire) McKervey of Clio, David (Charlene) McKervey of Cadillac, Timothy (Lois) McKervey of Indian River, Kenneth McKervey of Cheboygan, Mark (Mary Ann) McKervey of Caro and Ann (Gregory) Playter of Ft. Wayne, IN, 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Besides her husband, Clophy was preceded in death by her parents and 13 brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 8, 2011 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at the Nordman-Christian Funeral Home with a rosary being prayed at 7:00 pm led by the Daughters of Isabella, St. Theresa Circle. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, December 9, 2011 at 11:00 am at St. Mary/St. Charles Catholic Church with visitation at the church one hour prior to the mass. The Rev. Harry Speckman will officiate and burial will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Clophy’s name may be directed to the Daughters of Isabella, St. Theresa Circle.
