Wendy L. Caulkins, 71, of Cheboygan, died Sunday, December 30, 2012 at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey.
Wendy was born March 31, 1941 in Mt. Vernon, Ohio, the daughter of Rex and Barbara (Caulkins) Lamb, Jr. She grew up in Mt. Vernon before attending the Baldwin School in Bryn Mar, Pennsylvania and Wellesley College in Wellesley, Massachusetts, where she earned her bachelor’s degree. On June 7, 1963, she married Henry L. “Mick” Caulkins, Jr., in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan.
Wendy was a founding member of the Cheboygan Arts Council and a driving member of the committee that restored the Opera house. She served on various arts council boards and committees and was active until the day she died. She also served multiple terms on the board of Mackinac Associates, the friends group for the Mackinac State Parks, and was an enthusiastic supporter of their outreach programs in schools throughout the state.
She was also an avid skier, skater, walker, and swimmer. She was a voracious reader and also loved to cook, which she did considerably better than most.
Surviving are her husband, Mick of Cheboygan, two children, Lee Keller (Kevin) of Marietta, Georgia, and Hank (Margaret Allen) of Rockford, Michigan, and five grandchildren, Courtney, Kaitlyn, Emma, and Henry IV, of Rockford, and Sarah of Marietta, Georgia.
No services are planned at this time.
