Allen E. Jewell, Sr.

Allen E. Jewell, Sr., age 74, of Cheboygan passed away Monday, February 20, 2017 at McLaren Hospital in Petoskey. He was born December 2, 1942 in Cheboygan, the son of Fay and Ada (Thilhorn) Jewell. On June 9th, 1970 in Cheboygan, Allen married Karen Neugebauer.

Allen worked for the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, first at the locks in Alanson, eventually transferring to the Soo Locks, retiring as Lockmaster in 2003 after 30 years of service. Allen was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and boating.

Survivors include his six children, Anthony Jewell of Owosso, MI, Kathryn (Richard) LaDuke of Peru, IN, Sarah Jewell of Lansing, MI, Allen Jewell, II of Leonard, MI, Laura (Justin) Swain of Mason, MI and Clayton (Gem) Jewell of Ada, MI, two brothers, Ralph Jewell and Lewis (Mary Lou) Jewell, both of Cheboygan, 15 grandchildren and his former wife of 35 years, Karen Jewell-Holden. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Ruth Proctor, Mary Lou Peck, Barbara Edwards and Sandra Smith and one granddaughter, Emily Mayer.

A memorial service will take place on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 1:00 PM at the Nordman-Christian Funeral Home with the family greeting friends one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Disabled American Veterans.
