Audrey (Babcock) Gahn

One of Bois Blanc Island’s matriarchs, Audrey Ann (Babcock) Gahn, 86, passed away on October 2, 2017 at McLaren Northern Michigan in Petoskey. 

Born December 17, 1930, she was the first of six children born to Eugene and Margaret (Plaunt) Babcock on Bois Blanc Island where she remained a lifelong resident and will be laid to rest there.  She was married to her high school sweetheart Hubert (Bert) Gahn for 49 years until his death in 1996.  She worked on the island for the U.S. Postal Service for 34 years, 30 of which as Postmaster, until her retirement in 1992. 

She leaves behind her children Roseann Crist, Rebecca Petrusch, and Rachel Vallance (Terry) of Cheboygan, Carol Gahn of Ishpeming, Michael Gahn (Cheryl) and Clover Schlund (Joe) of Bois Blanc Island.  She is survived by her sister Shirley Gahn of Boyne City, brothers Victor Babcock of the Island and Thomas Babcock of Cedar Springs, two sisters-in-law Patricia Gahn and Ginny Plichta, 10 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bert, her infant son Patrick John, her son Charles Paul, and sisters Joyce and Marie.

No services are planned at this time.
