Barbara Ann (Burt) Paige

Harbor Springs resident, Barbara Paige, 87, died August 4, 2017 at Hiland Cottage in Petoskey.

Barbara was born September 5, 1929 in Wyandotte, Michigan, the daughter of Howard and Thelma (Butterworth) Burt. She grew up in Gibraltar, Michigan and graduated from Eastern Michigan University.

Barbara married Chuck Paige in 1952 and together they raised two children, Charlie and Jeri.

In 1956, Barbara moved to Harbor Springs and began working as the Secretary and Bookkeeper for The Harbor Pointe Association, a title she held for 40 years.

Barbara loved taking her grandchildren to get ice cream cones, go to plays and down to the beach to swim. You could find her at every sporting event in Harbor Springs history since 1956, cheering on her kids and eventually her grandkids. Every day she looked forward to taking her dogs for a walk.

She was a Cub Scout Leader, Sunday School Teacher and member of the PTA when her kids were young; Secretary of the Baseball Commission, a Ram Booster, and a member of the zoning board and city council. 

She was a strong lady and she raised her family to be the same; guiding them with the motherly advice of “stand up straight” and “do your best”.

Barbara is survived by her son, Charlie (Diana) Paige of Harbor Springs; daughter, Jeri Wilson of Harbor Springs; five grandchildren, Paige, Katie, Nichole, Kay and Brooke; three great grandchildren, Hailey, Emily and Clete; and a nephew, Howard Burt.

Barbara is preceded in death by her brother, Dwight Burt; parents, Howard and Thelma Burt; son-in-law, Jim Wilson; and sister-in-law, Nancy Burt.

There will be a memorial service at the First Presbyterian Church on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with a one hour gathering prior to the service.

The Paige family suggests memorial donations to Hiland Cottage and the Little Traverse Bay Humane Society.
