Betty Jean Elmhirst, 53 of Shelby Twp. came to peace after a long struggle with cancer on Wednesday March 14, 2018. She was born on June 16, 1964 to Dick and Maxine Wilson. She is survived by her husband James of 28 years, daughter Jillian (Jake) Francis, step daughter Tori Vigneau, sister Jean (Dean) Thompson, brother Cameron (Joanne) Wagner, sister in-law Bonnie (Pat) Ball, brothers-in law Rick (Cindy) Elmhirst, John Elmhirst, Steve (Cheri) Elmhirst, parents Dick and Maxine Wilson, grandson Thomas Francis and many nieces and nephews. After graduating from Inland Lakes High School in 1982, Betty went on to Michigan State University to study Botany. Betty had a passion for all animals especially horses. She earned multiple titles with her beloved Tennessee walking horses at the State and National level. Betty became very involved with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society raising money through horses and cycling. Viewing will be held Sunday March 18, 2018 at Lintz Funeral home, Indian River, MI 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral to be at Indian River United Methodist Church Monday March 19, 2018 11:00 AM with a luncheon to follow.
