Boyd Allen Crist

October 31, 1920 ~ January 26, 2016 (age 95) 95 Years Old

Boyd Allen Crist, age 95, of Black Lake passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 and is now at home with Jesus. He was born October 31, 1920 in Eveleth Minnesota, the son of Richard and Pearl (Redfield) Crist and had lived in Chicago before moving to Michigan.

Boyd met Doris Shessia in Cheboygan and they were married July 18, 1942. Boyd and Doris moved to Detroit where he got a job working at Monsanto Chemical Co. before settling at Black Lake where he operated a Sturgeon fishing business in the winter and a dredging business in the summer. Boyd and Doris enjoyed their life together hunting and fishing as their favorite pastime, spending many months on fishing trips in Canada every year. Boyd was known for his extensive knowledge of the sport of sturgeon spearing and processing of the harvested fish and eggs referred to as caviar. The ice fishing business was so successful that Boyd’s sturgeon customers were known to reserve their spot three years in advance. Boyd was also a golfer and enjoyed watching televised golf tournaments. After a hard days work he enjoyed watching television, especially the Lawrence Welk show and HeeHaw!  Boyd will be missed by many.

Boyd is survived by his wife Doris, four sons, Ronald, Gary, David, and Larry, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held in late spring.  Arrangements are being handled by the Nordman-Christian Funeral Home.
