Welcome to the memorial page for

Daniel Baier

July 12, 1945 ~ April 19, 2016 (age 70) 70 Years Old

Daniel L. Baier, 70, passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at his home in Cheboygan.

A northern MI resident for the majority of his life, Dan was born on July 12, 1945 in Cheboygan, the son of Ernest and Ione (Maxwell) Baier.  After graduating from Cheboygan Catholic High School, he earned a degree in elementary education from Oakland University. Following graduation, he enlisted and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1966-1970, including a one-year tour of duty stationed at Tuy Hoa Air Force Base in Vietnam.  On October 1, 1971 in Royal Oak, MI, he married Joan Potter and returned to northern MI to raise their family.  For over 30 years, he worked for the Mackinac Bridge Authority, retiring in 2004.

Dan was a devoted and humble servant of God. When he wasn’t spending time with his family and friends, he enjoyed listening to music and playing the guitar.  In the summer months, you would find Dan riding his bicycle around town or “putting miles behind him” and his motorcycle on the surrounding northern MI back roads. He found pleasure singing in various choir groups over the years and working with youth and disadvantaged within the community.

Surviving Dan are his wife, Joan and three children: Sarah (Tony) Priolo of Park Ridge, IL, Matthew (Wendy) Baier of Seattle, WA and Emily (Nathan) Douglas of Williamsburg, MI, his three grandchildren: Violet, Olivia and Isla, his brother, James (Jorene) Baier of Oscoda, sister-in-law, Peggy Baier of Gulfport, FL and many beloved nieces, nephews and extended family members. His parents and his brother, Wally Baier, preceded him in death.

A service will be held in memory of Dan’s life on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at St. Mary/St. Charles Catholic Church. His family will begin greeting friends at 10:00am with a mass to follow at 11:00am. Father Paul Megge will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bishop Baraga Educational Foundation or Hospice of the Straits.

The Nordman-Christian Funeral Home is caring for the family. Online condolences may be made at www.stonefuneralhomeinc.com.
