David F. Deeter

David F. Deeter, age 75, of Cheboygan passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at McLaren Hospital in Petoskey. He was born March 8, 1942 in Titusville, PA, the son of Oakley and Minnie (Nash) Deeter.

Dave joined the U.S. Coast Guard in 1960 and was stationed aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Mackinaw. Upon his discharge in 1964, Dave made Cheboygan his home. He had worked at Detroit Tap & Tool and owned several small businesses in Cheboygan, including D&D Electric and Dave’s Power Equipment. He also drove a school bus for Cheboygan Area Schools for more than 35 years and was a member of the Cheboygan Fire Department. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play hockey and playing Skip-Bo with them, tinkering in his shop, cutting wood and visiting the family farm in Pennsylvania.

Survivors include his four children, David Deeter of Cheboygan, Darrin (Trisha) Deeter of Macomb, Doug (Amy) Deeter of Freeland and DeLaine (Gary) Christie of Cheboygan; one brother, Richard (Shirley) Deeter of Titusville, PA, grandchildren: Sarah (fiance’ Peter Waldorf) Deeter and Megan Deeter, Andrew and Justin Deeter, Alex and Adam Deeter and Austin, Garrett and Amelia Christie; brother-in-law, Duane Whitehill, sister-in-law, Fran Whitehill; his former wife, Barb Algenstedt and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, George Deeter, one sister, Dora Jean Whitehill, his nephew, John Deeter and his niece, Damaris Tartara.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, April 17, 2017 at 1:00 PM at the Evangelical Covenant Church with the family greeting friends beginning at 11:00 AM. Burial will take place in Dave’s hometown in Pennsylvania. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Cheboygan Blue Liners or the church. Arrangements are being handled by the Nordman-Christian Funeral Home.
