Delores J. (VerHage) Slunick, 83, of Cheboygan, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at McLaren Northern Michigan in Petoskey.
Delores was born May 24, 1936 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Evert and Alice (Bowhuis) VerHage. She was a 1954 graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School and later, on June 1, 1956 in Kalamazoo, married Thomas Slunick who preceded her in death in 2011. Delores was a full time wife and mother, and had been employed at Plainwell Public Schools as a teacher’s aide. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, and enjoyed bowling, golfing, and hand crafts.
Surviving are two sons, Jeff (Vickie) Slunick of Plainwell, and Steven (Janice) Slunick of Clarkston, two daughters, Terri (Dana) Marks of Cedarburg, Wisconsin, and Jill (Robert Whitelow) Slunick of Kalamazoo, six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Jacob, Roger, and Evert VerHage, and two sisters, Eleanor Vanderpol and Winifred Chandler.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at 1:00pm, with the family greeting friends beginning at noon, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, with Rev. Dr. John Bailey officiating.
