DOROTHY HEDLUND KOURY 92, October 6, 1925 – February 14, 2018
On October 6, 1925 Dorothy Virginia Hedlund was born in Petoskey to Nils Ellis and Renolia Holloman Hedlund. The family relocated in Harbor Springs, where Dorothy attended Harbor Springs Public School, graduating in 1943. Having met her husband-to-be in San Antonio, Texas, she was married on March 6, 1953 to Lt. Adolph J. Koury, Jr., at the Base Chapel, Wright-Patterson AFB, Dayton, Ohio. The marriage ended in divorce in 1967. After residing for many years in New Jersey, she brought her family to Northern Michigan and settled in Petoskey in 1970.
Antiques and collectibles were of special interest to Dorothy, and for many years she was one of seven dealers at the Red House Antiques shop in Cross Village. Reading was her particular passion, together with a love of music and a deep appreciation of nature and its creatures.
Dorothy was predeceased by her father and mother, her brother, Alan N. Wright and an infant brother, William. Survivors include her three sons, David H. of Oakland, CA, Jeffrey A. of Corona Del Mar, CA, and Christopher E. (Corinne) of Petoskey. Three granddaughters, Jessica Koury of Philadelphia, PA, Amy Koury of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA and Delaney Welsh of Grand Rapids also survive her.
There will be a memorial service at Stone Funeral Home on Friday, April 27, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with a one hour visitation prior to the service. Rev. David Behling will officiate.
