Dr. Thomas L. Turcott

Dr. Thomas Larry Turcott was born June 19, 1923 to George and Agnes Turcott in Boyne City, Michigan and died peacefully Thursday June 15, 2017.

He was married to his good hearted woman, Margaret Louise Turcott, for 67 years until her death November 1, 2014.

Thomas Turcott graduated from Boyne City High School, served in the Armed Air Forces during WWII, graduated from Central Michigan University and Northern Illinois School of Optometry.

After practicing as an optometrist for 2 years in Charlevoix, he opened a practice in Petoskey that he operated for about 37 years. He was very involved in Petoskey’s Little League, Babe Ruth and Senior League Baseball for many years. Thomas was  a member of the City Council for many years and remained active in city politics well after his years of service had officially ended.

He is survived by his 9 children: Riley Turcott, Mike Turcott (Annie), Casey Turcott (Terri), Patricia McClees, Laura Bachelor (Scott), Kathy Turcott, Jane Blaylock (Terry), Mary Hayes, Dan Turcott (Gloria), 19 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

Viewing will be Thursday June 22nd at Stone Funeral Home from 6:00 – 8:00 pm.  A funeral mass will be held at St Francis Xavier Church on Friday June 23rd at 10:30 a.m. with a one hour visitation prior to the service, followed by a luncheon at The Knights of Columbus Hall.

Donations in memory of Thomas are asked to be directed to Brother Dan's Food Pantry or the Emmet County Friendship Center.
