We met Dree within a few days of moving from out of state to Petoskey with 3 high school sons. An extremely difficult move for them as they left behind great friends. Dree with her smile, outgoing personality and boundless energy connected us at once with the community, the park's tennis activities and with Carson and Austin on the courts. She welcomed our family into the Petoskey sports community and helped our high schoolers find a niche in their new home. What an encourager, mentor, coach and friend Dree was , to children and adults alike. I have precious memories of many away high school boys tennis invitationals ,Regionals and State tournaments, where she and I both were team drivers! Generous in all ways and always an open- door policy for students and friends alike in her heart... Carson and Austin, the men you have become is greatly a result of the love and life your mother poured into you! know that the Downey's door is always open for you too- always! Praying for you both.

I cannot think of a more inspiring woman; gentle heart, warm smile, giving nature, commitment to youth and community giving.
No one should lose a mother with this much youth, vitality and generosity. The community will suffer and grieve her loss as well.
Godspeed, Dree.

I had the opportunity to see Dree in January at Stokely, outside enjoying the beautiful snow and inside dancing with friends. A smile on her face the entire weekend. What a wonderful memory.
Carson and Austin - I'm so very sorry. I will keep you in my thoughts.

Dree was a teammate and a friend. The last time we crossed paths was 31 years ago @ my wedding. My memories: a beautiful lady inside and out with a wonderful carefree smile. Special thoughts to her parents, sisters and sons. I lost someone very special in my family and reflect on this message each day. You can never outthink a broken heart. With her passing many hearts have been broken. Hugs to you Dree for being such a wonderful caring person. How lucky was I that our paths did cross.

Carson and Austin,
Your mother was one of the most authentic, warm, charming, caring, classy people we have ever had the honor and pleasure of knowing. We are so very sorry for your devastating loss.
She has left behind both of you, her amazing sons, who will carry on her legacy and continue to make her proud.
She was truly one of the "good ones," but you already knew that!
Warm hugs to you both - The Laenens

Dree was an "earth-angel". We send our love and prayers that your sweet memories will give you comfort. There are some things in our lives that we do not understand. That is where Faith fits in. ❤️
