Edmond "Ed" Blaskowski Obituary

Edmond “Ed” E. Blaskowski, age 96, of Cheboygan passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at The Brook Retirement community. He was born November 5, 1921 in Riggsville, the son of Victor and Frances (Mushlock) Blaskowski. On November 8, 1947 in Parisville, MI, Ed married Adeline B. Wasierski who preceded him in death in December of 2013.

Ed served his country with the U.S. Army during WWII. He served with the 32nd Red Arrow Division in the Pacific Theatre and received several decorations including the Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

Ed and Adeline made their home in Detroit until 1951 when they moved back to Cheboygan and bought a farm in Benton Township. Ed had farmed his entire life all while working at several jobs including the Straits ferry boats before the Mackinac Bridge was built, Nelson’s Greenhouse, driving a school bus, Northern Orchards and various factory jobs.

He had served as a County Commissioner for 12 years and a Trustee for Benton Township for over 40 years. He had also served on the Cheboygan Fair Board, the Northern Michigan Livestock Association, the Cheboygan County Soil Conservation district and the Huron Pines RC & D Council for over 20 years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed traveling with Adeline, rabbit and deer hunting, fishing (especially Sturgeon and Walleye), playing cards, going to the casino and attending his family’s sporting events.

Survivors include his six children, Joann (Curt) Sager of Cheboygan, Joyce (Wayne) Maltby of Cheboygan, Paul (Dawn) Blaskowski of Cheboygan, David (Karen) Blaskowski of Sault Ste. Marie, MI, Ron Blaskowski of Cheboygan and Dale (Andrea) Blaskowski of Cheboygan, one sister, Josephine Robydek, two brothers, Joseph (Mattie) and Leonard, three sisters-in-law, Shirley and Agnes Blaskowski and Marie Wasierski, 18 grandchildren, Kevin, Tia, Charlie, Gail, Molly, Cassie, Todd, Maggie, Adam, Tracy, Tami, Kristi, Katie, Lisa, Eddie, Jacob, Douglas, and Nicholas, 20 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. Besides his wife Adeline, Ed was preceded in death by four brothers, John, Stan, Roman and Beanie and two sisters, Mary LaMack and Helen Pardun.

 Visitation will take place at the Nordman-Christian Funeral Home on Monday, April 30 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and 6:00 – 8:00 pm with a rosary, led by the Knights of Columbus, beginning at 7:00 pm. The funeral mass will take place at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Tuesday, May 1 at 11:00am with the family greeting friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at St. Francis Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to Sturgeon For Tomorrow or Sacred Heart Church. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at The Brook for the wonderful care given to Ed over the last three years.
