Elanah E (Hawkes) Scott

Elanah E. (Hawkes) Scott passed away in her home July 14, 2015 at the age of 103 ½.

Elanah was born on Jefferson Hill, in Boyne City, MI December 4, 1911 to Abner and Lucy (Collings) Hawkes.  Elanah graduated from BCHS in 1930 and Western Michigan University in 1934 as a teacher.  She taught 5th grade for 42 years at Owosso, Michigan Schools.

In 1947 Elanah married Robert T. Scott who passed away in November of 1977.  Elanah remained a faithful life member of the 1st Church of Christ, Scientist, Mother Church in Boston, MA.  She was a life member of the Michigan Association of Retired Teachers for the last twenty some years.  Elanah lived in her home town of Boyne City to help her brother, John and wife Arlyne Hawkes.  Following Arlyne’s death, Elanah went back to Owosso and decided Owosso wasn’t where she wanted to be.  She wanted to go back home to Boyne City and be with family.  She spent her last years with the Hawkes side as she was the last of her line.

Elanah is preceded in death by her brothers Harry Hawkes, John (Arlyne Anderson) Hawkes; sister Anita (Joe) Heiermann; and the Scott family Wilma and Bob Gross, Roy and Ruth Scott, Earl and Margaret Scott, Dorothy and Charles Soukup.  Elanah never had any children of her own yet had many nieces and nephews and their families Renny and Lorraine Hawkes, Kaaren (Heiermann) and Perry Bennett, Bill and Linda Heiermann, Johncie (Hawkes) and Art Turner, Bonnie (Hawkes) and Deeks Carroll, Linda (Soukup) and Junior Vincent, Darrell and Gloria Soukup.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will take place 10:00 AM at August 4th, 2015 at Maple Lawn Cemetery in Boyne City.
