Elwood L. Hardy, Sr. passed from this world and into God’s care on Monday, July 25, 2016.

He was born on November 13, 1928 to Lester and Zola (Plumb) Hardy. He was raised on the family farm in Wilson Township and attended school in Boyne City where he met and fell in love with Phyllis Thayer. Elwood and Phyllis were married and raised six children, a daughter followed by five sons. Elwood was a veteran, a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, a devoted Rambler fan, and was very proud of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He loved working jigsaw puzzles and playing cards. He loved spending time at his hunting camp. He loved flowers and plants of all kinds. And he loved being surrounded by family and friends.

Elwood was preceded in death by: his wife, Phyllis, parents, Lester and Zola, sisters, Norma Jean Russell and Yvonne Hocquard, brother Melvin, and by several brothers-and-sisters-in-law.

He is survived by his children: Janet (Elmer), Terry (Shelley), Woody (Penny), Les (Ruth Ann), Greg (Vicky), and Tim (Lauri) Hardy and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his brother Harold (Lorraine) Hardy, brothers-in-law Douglas Thayer and Charles Thayer, sisters-in-law Lois Langtry, Audrey Scott, Mary Thayer, and Patti (Chuck) Snedeker, as well as, dear friends, Brett Brooks and Archie Cole.

The family extends its gratitude to the staff at Grandvue Medical Care Facility who provided such exceptional care for Elwood and showed such compassion to all of our family. Memorial contributions may be directed to Grandvue Medical Care Facility or Boyne City School Boosters.
