Franklin "Frank" Maybank Obituary

Franklin “Frank” D. Maybank, age 84 of Cheboygan passed away Monday, February 5, 2018.  He was the son of Harry T. and Ella M. (Kunath) Maybank and was born on March 9, 1933 in Afton and raised in Indian River. On May 7, 1960, Frank married Esther E. Michelin at St. Charles Catholic Church and she preceded him in death on December 2, 2016.

Frank had worked for Procter & Gamble for 23 years and retired in 1990. Upon retirement Frank liked to stay busy by working at Kewadin Casino in St. Ignace as a Black Jack dealer and, most recently, was a greeter for Star Line Ferry in Mackinaw City.

While growing up, Frank enjoyed all sports activities. He was a member of the first graduating class of Inland Lakes High School in 1952 but during his junior year attended Petoskey High School to play basketball where he led his team to the state finals. Frank was a member of the Cheboygan Eagles and enjoyed bowling, golfing, going to the casino, playing Bingo and playing pool. He was the 1969 Northern Michigan Pool Champion and in the late 60s and early 70s, played fast pitch softball for Club 27 in the Independent League where he was home run king for five years straight.

Survivors include his five children, Dale (Debbie) Maybank and Curtis Maybank, both of New Orleans, LA, Tracy (Patricia) Maybank of Los Angeles, CA, MaryLee Maybank of Cheboygan and Kelley (Brian) Vilenski of Interlochen, six grandchildren, Maximiliaan, Sean, Amanda, Cody, Joey and Josh, two great granddaughters, Kaitlyn and BrayLynn, three brothers, Theodore Maybank of Topinabee, Gene (Julie) Maybank of Lakeland, FL, Jim (Judy) Maybank of Cheboygan, one sister, Jeanette (Gail) Rodgers of Houghton Lake and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his wife Esther, Frank was preceded in death by two brothers, Keith and Tex and two sisters, Donna Koval and Beth King.

A memorial service will be announced in the spring.  Arrangements are being handled by the Nordman-Christian Funeral Home.
