Gail Anne (Elliott) Rawle

Gail Anne Rawle, 85

Gail Anne Elliott Rawle, 85 and formerly of Upland, California, died February 15, 2018 at Hiland Cottage in Petoskey, Michigan. 

She was born Gail Anne Elliott on June 13, 1932 in San Fernando, California to Cecil Lennox and Hazel Mary (Acton) Elliott.  Gail was raised in the Philippines, where her father had found work during the Great Depression as a mining engineer.  On December 8, 1941, the day following the attack on Pearl Harbor; the forces of the Empire of Japan invaded the Philippines.  The Imperial Japanese authorities immediately ordered the internment of all foreign nationals.  Gail and her family were placed in the Japanese  internment camp, Santo Tomos, near Manila, where they remained civilian prisoners of war until the camp was liberated by U.S. forces on February 3, 1945.    

Gail's family returned to the United States where Gail entered the Annie Wright Seminary, she went on to attend Nursing School at Chaffey College in California. 

In 1952 she married her first husband, Robert Lawry Chamberlain.  Gail and Robert had 3 children, Beth Ann, Robert and David.  Gail worked as an RN/OB Delivery Nurse for San Antonio Community Hospital in Upland California for a number of years.  Gail eventually earned an additional degree as an OB Nursing Practitioner.  In 1978 she married Dr. Gerad Rawle, M.D., and together Gail and Gerad shared a very successful OB Practice, caring for patients in the Upland, California area for many years.

Gail's surviving family include her daughter, Beth Ann (Clint) Harwood and son, David Mark Chamberlain, her grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Tamminga and Rachel Deane Tamminga.  She is also survived by her former husband and friend, Robert Lawry Chamberlain.   She was preceded in death by her son Robert Elliott Chamberlain and by her husband Dr. Gerad Rawle.

Gail's family will remember and celebrate her life on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Stone Funeral Home in Petoskey.  The service will be led by Fr. Greg Brown of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church.  Visitation will be from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home on Saturday.  She will be interred at Pacific View Memorial Park near Corona Del Mar, California.
