Welcome to the memorial page for

George "Rick" Braidwood

June 20, 1942 ~ April 18, 2015 (age 72) 72 Years Old

George F. “Rick” Braidwood, age 72, of Indian River, passed away at the Emmet County Care Facility (Bay Bluffs) in Harbor Springs on April 18, 2015.  He was born June 20, 1942 in Almont, MI, the son of Beatrice Isabelle (Butler) and George C. Braidwood.

Rick was raised in Imlay City, MI, where he was very active in sports and many activities, including scouting, achieving the level of Eagle Scout.  He was the valedictorian of his senior class.  He attended the University of Michigan, receiving a B.S. in Industrial Engineering and a Masters in Business Administration.  Rick was also very active in DeMolay and Scottish Rite.

He married Virginia C. (Ginny) Braidwood in 1968 after meeting her on the campus of MSU, where Ginny was finishing her degree.  They resided for many years in Plymouth, MI.  Rick worked in Ann Arbor as a management consultant in health care, and traveled extensively to hospitals across the US and Canada, working for many years in Toronto and Ottawa.

Rick and Ginny raised three sons, and much to Rick’s delight, they all chose to attend his alma mater.  Football Saturdays at Michigan Stadium were a ritual for the Braidwoods, and Rick remained a steadfast supporter of all things Maize ‘n Blue.

The Braidwoods retired to Indian River in 2000, where Rick enjoyed the beauty and serenity of life on Burt Lake.  His love of music, especially Dixieland jazz, was a life-long passion.  In 2007, Rick moved to Bay Bluffs, where his caregivers often danced and sang along to his large jazz music collection.  They continued to play his music for him until his last days.  Rick’s family will be forever grateful for the wonderful care and incredible kindness of the Bay Bluffs staff.

Rick is survived by his wife, Ginny, sons Christopher (Megan), Jason (Kassandra), Ryan (Jennifer), and five wonderful grandchildren – Nicklas, Samantha, Cameron, Isabelle, and Charlotte.  He is also survived by his sister Anne (Robert) Watt and his sisters-in-law Margo (Stephen) Smith and Lisa (Mark) Fusello and brother-in-law Peter (Barbara) Bauman and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at noon, with the family greeting friends beginning at 11:00am, at the First United Methodist Church in Indian River.

A luncheon will be served in the fellowship hall of the church immediately after the service.

The family requests that any memorial contributions be made to Bay Bluffs in Rick’s honor via the Petoskey-Harbor Springs Community Foundation, designating the Bay Bluffs fund.

Online condolences may be made at www.stonefuneralhomeinc.com.

The family is being served by Lintz Funeral Home in Indian River.
