George Friday

George E. Friday, 94, of Cheboygan, passed away Monday, June 29, 2015 at Tendercare of Cheboygan.

A lifelong resident of Cheboygan, George was born August 29, 1920 in Cheboygan the son of Henry and Catherine (Tirk) Friday.  On March 6, 1945 in Cheboygan, he married Thelma Morris, who preceded him in death in 1984.  George had been employed as a machinist at Detroit Tap and Tool for over 20 years.  He was a member of St. Mary/St. Charles Catholic Church, and was an avid wood carver of cars, trains, etc. and enjoyed playing bingo at Tendercare.

Surviving are four children, Dennis (Jean) Morris of Copemish, Joseph Friday of St. Helen, Sharyn Ostroske, and Shar (Ron) Barrette, both of Cheboygan, 16 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, a sister, Theresa (Harry) Sova of Utica, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Thelma, a daughter, Debra Johnson, and several brothers.

The funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 3, 2015 at 11:00am, with visitation beginning at 10:00am, at St. Mary/St. Charles Catholic Church.  Rev. Craig Haider will officiate, burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
