George was born September 6, 1942 in Boyne Falls, the son of Marion and Beulah (Baker) Massey.  One of eight siblings, they spent their childhood working on the family farm raising dairy cattle and rainbow trout to stock Moyer Creek Trout Pond just outside of Boyne Falls.  Following graduation, he served in the Army from 1961-1964 primarily stationed in Hohenfels, Germany.  He returned from service working as an ironworker in Michigan City, Indiana for a short time before going back to Boyne Falls to spend his life raising a family and building homes.  He retired from Andre Poineau Woodworker in 2004.  He enjoyed his family, history, old Western movies and carpentry.  He was an avid birdwatcher who loved to watch for many different species of birds.

Surviving are his children, Anjanette (Dean) Reynolds of Boyne City and Gregory (Sarah) Massey of Owosso.  His five grandchildren Lydia, Madison and Ryan Reynolds and Trenton and Emerson Massey.  Sister Eloise McGeorge of Boyne Falls, brothers Bill Massey, Alan (Zeke) Massey and Leon Massey all of Boyne Falls, and John Massey of Harbor Springs, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Lila Kelso and Peggy Massey.
