George Demetrios Spanos, 79, of Petoskey, died September 1, at Hiland Cottage.
George was born July 2, 1936 in Lansing, Michigan, the son of George and Pauline Spanos. He grew up in East Lansing and attended school at the Culver Military Academy and East Lansing High School. He obtained his undergraduate degree at Albion College and went on to earn his Juris Doctor degree from Northwestern University.
After graduation from Law School, George was a trust officer at American Bank and Trust in Lansing, Michigan until he entered private practice there.
He married Lolita Mahenski in Petoskey on June 30, 1972.
George was a partner in Burns and Spanos in Petoskey from 1980 until 1996. He continued in private practice until his retirement in 2007.
He was a member of the State Bar of Michigan and the American Bar Association. He attended Trinity Missionary Church.
George is survived by his wife, Lolita "Lea" Spanos of Petoskey; stepchildren Daniel (Donna) Hudson of New Hampshire, John Henry Hudson (Dairiku Hozumi) of Houston, Texas, Harold Andrew (Kristin) Wilkens of Lakewood, Colorado, and Patricia Wilkens of Cincinnati, Ohio; five grandchildren, Brian, Max and Henry Hudson, Leila and Alexander Wilkens; sibings, Demetrios George Spanos of Okemos, Peter (Christal) Spanos of Munich, Germany, Mary Ann (John) Fellows of Howell; nephews, John (Ann) Fellows and George (Elke) and niece, Helena Spanos; great-nieces, Emma Fellows, Lea Maria and Hannah Spanos, and great-nephews Jonathan and Jake Spanos.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Mark Fellows.
There will be a visitation on Friday, September 4, 2015, at Stone Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 5 at 2:00 p.m. at Stone Funeral Home in Petoskey.
