Irene Ida (Schaefer) Schrage

Irene Ida Schrage of Petoskey MI died in the early morning hours on November 7, 2017.  We are blessed that she passed in her sleep at Bay Bluffs.

Irene married her love, Oscar (Bud) Schrage on May 6, 1943 in Detroit at Nativity of Our Lord Church.  He preceded her in death on April 9, 1989.  They made their home in Grosse Pointe Woods prior to their move to Petoskey in 1976.

Irene was a member of St Francis Xavier Church in Petoskey.  Her journey through life was guided by her faith.

Irene loved to entertain family and friends.  She was always ready to go where ever the invite took her.  Dancing with her husband and playing cards (Bridge especially) were two of her favorites.  Prior to her move to living at American House for three years and finally a move to Bay Bluffs for 1.5 years she spent three winters in Arizona with her son.  Many of her sibling’s children gave her love and kept the family legacy alive. Irene’s family and friends remember her elegance and Bette Davis eyes.  Grandma Schrage loved her time with her grandchildren.

She will be missed by her family.  She is survived by her son, Ron (Becky) Schrage of Petoskey and Mesa AZ.  Four grandsons: Craig (Bridget), Brad (Sherry), Adam, and Eric all leaving in the Petoskey area.  Her great grandchildren are Derek, Luke, Courtney, Trent, Dylan, Tyler and Mason.  She was also blessed with great great grandchildren:  Genesis and Owen.  Also, the grandchildren’s mother and step-father, Judy and Roger Mays.

Preceded in death include her parents and husband.  Her siblings Mrs. Beatrice Diehl, Mrs. LaVerne Fratto, Francis Schaefer and Edwin Schaefer.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 19 from 2-4 pm at Stone Funeral Home.  Funeral Mass is on Monday, November 20 at 10:30, St. Francis Xavier Church, Petoskey.

Immediately following funeral, luncheon will be held at VFW Hall, North Conway Road, Harbor Springs MI 49740
