Iver Clark Thornburg

Iver Clark Thornburg, 78, of Petoskey passed away on July 8, 2017 at Hiland Cottage surrounded by his family.

Iver was born on October 18, 1938 in Boyne City, MI, the son of Oza Melvin Thornburg and Louise (Rattray) Thornburg. He grew up in Rapid City, MI and later moved to Cheboygan where he attended high school. Iver obtained a Bachelors Degree and proudly served our country in the Navy for four years on the USS Forrestal.

On June 16th, 1962 he married Carolyn Swartz in Detroit, MI at St. John's Lutheran Church. Iver served as a firefighter captain in Detroit for 28 years, and was a fire liaison for Burt Township, working closely with the Pellston Fire Department. Iver enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Lodge in Cheboygan.

Iver is survived by his wife Carolyn Thornburg, his children James (Lesley) Thornburg and David (Tanya) Thornburg, grandchildren, Kourtney Thornburg, Tucker Thornburg, and Charlie Thornburg, Siblings Neil (Betty) Thornburg, Lyle Thornburg, Dale (Val) Thornburg, and Janice Fisher, sister-in-law Elaine (Dominic) Soave, and nieces and nephews Dominic Jr. (Michelle) Soave, Angelinna (Christopher) Scates, Kristina Soave, Douglas (Carolyn) Thornburg, Angelia (Robert) Hargett, Tammy (John) Harper, Teresa (Wayne) Granger, Terri (Craig) Crambell, Norman Thornburg, Dale Thornburg, Dennis (Michelle) Thornburg, Kohn (Traci) Fisher, Michael Fisher, Timothy (Ami) Fisher. He is preceded in death by his parents Louise and Oza Thornburg.

There will be a memorial service on Sunday, July 30th at 1pm with visitation starting at 12pm at the Nordman-Christian Funeral Home with the reverend Dave Hueter officiating. There will be a luncheon to follow at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge in Cheboygan.
