James A. "Jim" Sova

James “Jim” Anthony Sova, 70, of Cheboygan, MI passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2017, at his home after a short illness. He was born July 12, 1946 in Cheboygan, the son of Raymond and Ethel (Quesnell) Sova. On June 1, 1991 in Cheboygan Jim married Rita “Lynn” Charboneau.

Jim served in the National Guard from 1963 – 1969 and was called up to active duty in 1967 during the Detroit riots. He and Lynn had owned and operated Sova Appliance since 1990. He enjoyed deer hunting and loved animals including his dogs, cats and horses. He especially enjoyed going out to eat and long drives with Lynn whom he loved dearly. Jim was a kind, honest and generous soul who will be sadly missed by all who knew him including his longtime customers.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Lynn of Cheboygan, five sons, Paul (DeeAnna), David, and Matthew (Marty) all from Hopkinsville, KY, Adam (Christine) of Port Huron, MI and Ben (Christina) of Marysville, MI, one step-son, Tommy Charboneau of Cheboygan, one brother, Jerry (Sally) Sova of Cheboygan, 11 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, his longtime handyman, Robert (Becky) Ripley of Cheboygan, his beloved Bichon, Lucky and his cat, Ani. He was preceded in death by his parents and his dogs, Princess “Sissy” and Dutchess “Baby Girl”.

Visitation will take place at the Nordman-Christian Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 11 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM. The funeral mass will take place at St. Mary/St. Charles Catholic Church on Wednesday, July 12 at Noon with the family greeting friends beginning at 11:00 AM. Rev. Paul Megge will officiate and burial will take place at Oakhill Cemetery with full military honors. Memorial contributions in Jim’s name may directed to his family. Lynn would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to the Mackinaw City V.A. Clinic for the wonderful care given to Jim.
