Janet M. Bancroft

Janet M. Bancroft, age 81, of Cheboygan passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2017. She was born February 9, 1935 in Cheboygan, the daughter of the late Edmund and Marie (Lewis) Krol. On December 4, 1954 in Cheboygan, Janet married Thomas Bancroft.

Janet was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and had worked for several years as a bookkeeper at Woolworth’s, behind the counter at Sova’s Meats  and as a cashier at Glen’s Market. She enjoyed baking cookies for craft shows for many years and was known as the “Cookie Lady”. She had also done fundraising for the March of Dimes and the American Cancer Society.

Survivors include her husband, Tom of Cheboygan, four children, Mike (Bonnie) Bancroft and Mark Bancroft, both of Cheboygan, Ken (Lorie) Bancroft of Lansing and Lori (Ron) Strow, also of Cheboygan, her brothers-in-law, Eugene “Dewey” Hebert of Petoskey and George (Della) Bancroft of Cheboygan, nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Christine and her sister, Esther Hebert.

Visitation will be held at the Nordman-Christian Funeral Home on Friday, February 3, 2017 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 PM. The funeral service will take place on Saturday, February 4, 2016 at Noon, also at the funeral home with the family greeting friends one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Paul Megge will officiate and burial will take place at Pinehill Cemetery in the spring. Memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of the Straits.
