Jolie Hile

On July 10, 2017, a true warrior princess left this world to join her family in heaven.

Jolie Danielle Hile was born on February 6, 1968 in Washington, D.C. She spent her childhood in Brownsville, Texas where she graduated from James Pace High School in 1986. Each summer she would travel to Northern Michigan to spend the summer with her grandparents, Robert and Phyllis Fenton, on Mullett Lake in Aloha Township. She attended college at MSU receiving a Master’s Degree in Counseling. After college, Jolie returned to Cheboygan and worked at the Petoskey Club in 2001 and in 2003 worked as a Counselor at Hiawatha Behavioral Health in St. Ignace with other jobs atthe Cheboygan Fitness Club and The Depot Restaurant. In 2008, she returned to her grandparents’ home and became their loving caregiver.  Immediately following her grandmother’s death in 2014, she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and the battle against cancer began. Jolie was an inspiration to so many people suffering from the disease when she tried new experimental treatments and traveled to Tijuana, Mexico three times in hopes of fighting the disease. She credited Dr. Carlos Bautista with saving her life at the Immunity Therapy Center. She lived 3 more years after her diagnosis, never giving up in her quest to find a cure. Jolie fought a courageous battle making weekly and bi-weekly trips to Ann Arbor to receive low grade chemotherapy from Dr. Malcolm Sickels. She lovingly referred to him as her “mad scientist”. He was always trying to find different treatments to save her life. Jolie enjoyed the stage and was a “triple threat” singing, dancing and acting. She appeared in the Rivertown Follies beginning in 1989 and later served on the Board of Directors. She even put her creative juices to work in actually planning the show. Jolie also directed a Tree of Lights Christmas Show at the Opera House and was also active in the Northland Players and directed “Chicago”, one of NP’s most successful shows in 2009. Jolie loved to just sit and enjoy the lake and her home. She loved finding little gifts for people and sending them out even when she was so sick. Jolie was always sending cards to her friends and family, always wanting to lighten their day. She made countless friends on Facebook and called herself a “Facebook addict”. With her posts, she spread joy and hope to others suffering with cancer posting everything she could find on the internet to try and help them as well. She lost her battle, but never gave up the fight! Jolie was a true free spirit following her own unique path, caring, loving and generous.

Jolie was preceded in death by her mother, Christine Hile, her father, Nicholas Hile, and her “Bio Dad”, Daniel Knoblock, her maternal grandparents, Robert and Phyllis (Tromble) Fenton and her paternal grandparents, Norma and Charles Knoblock.

She is survived by many cousins too numerous to mention, both Tromble & Fenton, including Michael and Sandra Gray of Conroe, Texas, and Paul and Rebecca Ruehl of Rochester, Michigan, her adopted brother, Nicholas and Kathy Frenzel-Hile of Jaco Beach, Florida, her adopted sister, Rachel Hile-Dugal and son, Andy of Cheboygan, Michigan, her Uncle Steve Knoblock (Amy) of Cary, North Carolina, many brothers and sisters “from other mothers” all over the world, especially Renee Pelon and John, Jace and Bobby, she referred to as the “Fam” and her cat, Juliette.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Oak Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Joyce Brown-Moore officiating.

In lieu of flowers, her family and friends ask that donations be made to the Rivertown Follies, Northland Players or the Cheboygan County Humane Society in honor of Jolie Hile
