Joyce Ann (Andrews) Simowski

Joyce Ann Simowski, 75

Joyce A. Simowski 75, of Petoskey, died Saturday, September 2, 2017 at McLaren Northern Michigan. 

Joyce was born June 27, 1942 in Sparta, Tennessee to Othel and Minnie Andrews. 

For most of her professional life, Joyce has worked in Health Care Administration.  For many years she worked in the Medical Records Department of Burns Clinic as Director of Transcription and most recently at the time of her retirement she was Director of Operations for HealthPort, serving Michigan.  She was well respected and liked by her many colleagues and coworkers for her kindness, professionalism and strong work ethic.  To her friends she was always that person in times of need on whom you could count.  To her family she was a loving wife, mom and grandma.  She was also a gifted musician, who loved to play the piano.

Her family includes her best friend and husband Matthew Simowski, to whom she has been married since 1996.  She is also survived by her children, son Wayne (Leia Thompson) Vanderhoof, daughter Pamela (Wayne) Durbrow, and son David Carnes, grandchildren Breanna, Ashlee, Emma, Daisy, Amy, Jon, Darci, Robert, Tawney and great grandchildren Stephanie, Mark, Spencer, Lyric, Kamryn, Aiden and Ethan.  Also surviving Joyce is her sister Jennie “Kathy” Daniel, and Joyce’s companion and best K9 friend Christopher.  Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Herbert Vanderhoof in 1993.

Her life will be remembered and celebrated during a funeral service that is planned for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 7th at Stone Funeral Home; the service will be led by Rev. David Behling.  Visitation will be held Wednesday evening at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m.  She will be interred at Carp Lake Cemetery.
