Judy Ann McCaffrey

Judy Ann McCaffrey, 65, of Harbor Springs passed away peacefully in her home on Oct. 3, 2017, with her beloved children by her side.

Judy was born to Vergil and Bettyjane Lipscomb in St. Louis, Mo., on Sept. 16, 1952. She attended Mary Institute in St. Louis and graduated from Tudor Hall in Indianapolis. Judy earned a degree from the Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids.

Judy entered the kitchen and bath industry in 1983, and received numerous national awards for her work. In 2002, Judy opened Etc. Kitchens and Baths in Harbor Springs, which remains on State Street in the downtown district today.

Judy was an involved member of the Harbor Springs Area Chamber of Commerce, the Kiwanis Club of Harbor Springs, the Harbor Springs High School Strive Program and the Little Harbor Club.

Judy found joy in spending time with her children, Ryan and Courtney McCaffrey, and her niece Laura Sniadecki. She enjoyed sailing with her son, visiting her daughter in North Carolina, reading books to her great niece and nephews in Indianapolis and walking her beloved dog Sammy along the lakeshore. Some of her fondest memories were eating lobster tails at the top of the John Hancock Center and drinking boxed wine with family on the sand in front of Bettyjane’s home. Judy and Bettyjane were inseparable.  

Judy was preceded in death by her father Vergil Lipscomb, her mother Bettyjane Lipscomb Mogg and her half brother Michael Lipscomb. Surviving are her brother James Lipscomb, her half brother John Lipscomb, her half sister Jane Labonte, her children, Ryan and Courtney McCaffrey, her niece Laura (Mike) Sniadecki and her great nephews and niece, Henry, George and Lily Sniadecki.

A service will be held at 11 a.m., on Monday, Oct. 9, at the green space in front of the Harbor Springs City Hall where Bettyjane’s memorial tree sits. The family would like memorial contributions made to the Little Traverse Bay Humane Society.
