Karen Bodzick

Karen Bodzick, 63, of Petoskey began her spirit life on June 2, 2017. It was the 6th anniversary of her daughter, Jenny Bodzick’s passing and one day after her son’s graduation from Char-Em.

Karen was born in Detroit to Carl and Mary Jane Smith. The family moved to Petoskey in 1958. Karen graduated from Petoskey High School and went on to attend Northern Michigan University.

Karen will forever be known for her generosity, for the hardships she endured and for being the fierce protector of her handicapped son, Jeffrey. Karen lost the love of her life, the former Emmet County Sheriff, Jeff Bodzick, in 2002.

Karen was quick to aide anyone in need but was unable to accept help offered… even while battling cancer for the past several years.

Karen is survived by son Jeffrey Bodzick, Jr.; grandson Connor Prelop; brother, Steve Smith; sister-in-law, Penny Matthews-Smith; their children, Taylor, Natalie and Charlie; sister Cynthia Caponi and her children Andrew, Sarah and Emily; brother, Jeff Smith (Lisa); Aunt Shirley Smith; Ted (Kathy) Bodzick; Marge Owen; and Sue Richards; and many nieces and nephews, and first husband and friend David Cicinato.

Karen was proceeded in death by husband Jeff Bodzick; daughter Jenny Bodzick; parents Carl and Mary Jane Smith.

Friends and family will gather for a Celebration of her Life on September 9, 2017. There will be a brief ceremony at the Bodzick gravesite at Greenwood Cemetery at 11am with a picnic lunch following at Karen's home at 601 Morgan St, Petoskey. Maps to the gravesite will be available 30 minutes prior to the service, just past the office at Greenwood.
