Kathleen Marek

Kathleen Ann Marek, 68 of Petoskey, died November 5, 2017.

Kathleen was born on September 28, 1949 in Wyandotte, MI.  She was the daughter of the late Richard and Ann (Genthe) Gabriel as was raised in Southgate, MI.  She graduated from Southgate High School with the Class of 1967 and graduated from Cleary College, now Cleary University, with her Associates Degree.  

On August 23, 1975, Kathleen married James Marek in Bellaire, MI and the two later made their home in Petoskey.  Kathleen went to work for Community Mental Health before changing careers and becoming an Admissions Specialist at North Central Michigan College in Petoskey, a career she held for over 28 years before her retirement.

Kathleen was a member of the Cross in the Woods Shrine in Indian River where she was a Eucharistic Minister.  Her greatest love was her family.  She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and lived for spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.  She was even blessed with being able to volunteer at her grandson’s elementary school with their Book Club Program and spending time reading with them at their school.  She will be greatly missed by her family and all those who knew her.

Kathleen is survived by her husband, James; 2 sons, Daniel (Bethany) Marek of Petoskey and James (Amy) Marek of Charlevoix; 3 grandchildren, Seth Marek, Landon Marek, and Charlotte Marek; sister, Susan (Thomas) Albertson; 2 brothers, Richard (Karen) Gabriel and Michael (Claudia) Gabriel and by many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Thursday at the Stone Funeral Home with a Vigil Service beginning at 5pm with a visitation following until 8pm.
