Kenneth John Sievert

Kenneth John Sievert, 90 of Harbor Springs, Michigan formerly of Lewiston, Michigan, passed away June 15, 2017 at Bay Bluffs Medical Care Facility in Harbor Springs.

Ken was born June 27, 1926 in Monroe, Michigan, the son of Otto and Laura (Dishinger) Sievert. He grew up in Monroe and graduated from Monroe High School.  A proud veteran of World War II, he served honorably in the United States Navy, 1944 – 1946.

Through a blind date arranged by mutual friends, he met Marjorie Dunbar and they were married May 5, 1951 in Monroe, Michigan.  They made their home in Monroe until they retired to Lewiston, Michigan in 1981 to enjoy the cottage they built together on Tee Lake. In 2009, Marge and Ken moved to Harbor Springs to live with their daughter.

Ken enjoyed spending time with family, relaxing on his Tee Lake pontoon boat, reading, fishing, gardening, savoring a good meal, visiting casinos, shopping for a bargain, and sharing a joke to bring a smile to friends and family.  He was an avid fan of the Michigan State Spartans, and Detroit Tigers, Red Wings, and Lions.  Ken was a member of the American Legion and Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Petoskey, Michigan.

He is survived by his daughter, Linda McElroy and her husband, Michael, of Harbor Springs and their children Meaghan Johnson, and her husband Rob; Brandon McElroy and his wife Sara Bursac; and great grandchildren Isla Johnson, Arlo Johnson, and Leon McElroy.  He is also survived by his brother Dale Kregel and wife Bonnie; his sister Karen Spicer; his brother-in-law Reed Dunbar and wife Betty; and his nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie Sievert, and his sister Irene Sievert.

A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m., Monday, July 24, at the Cross of Christ Lutheran Church.  Pastor Sherry McGuffin of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Bay Bluffs Medical Care Facility in Harbor Springs, or to Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Petoskey, Michigan.  Envelopes will be available at the memorial service.
