Leroy Ormsbee Obituary

Leroy J. “Bud” Ormsbee, age 85, of Cheboygan passed away Thursday, February 22, 2018 at his home.  He was born November 21, 1932 in Afton, the son of Leroy John and Dessie Marie (Soules) Ormsbee. On November 25, 1950 in Tower, Bud married Lois M. Reno who preceded him in death on January 3, 2018.

Bud had owned and operated Ormsbee Enterprises which included L.J. Ormsbee Motors, Inc, and Ormsbee Implement in Afton. He was a member of the Cheboygan Kiwanis Club for over 50 years, serving as Lieutenant Governor and received the Hixson Award, their highest honor. He enjoyed cattle farming, antique cars, giving rides to handicapped children on a sleigh driven by his Belgium draft horses and, in his younger years, playing fast pitch softball winning the 1963 Class C state title. He was ordained at 19 years old and served his last official act of the Priesthood when he was 80 years old.

Survivors include his six children; son, Leroy L. "Buddy" (Janet) Ormsbee and their family; Shannon (Scott) Reifenberg (Katie, Emmy and Julia), Bradley (Kateri) Ormsbee (Brandon, Scotty and Kyle) and Aaron (Danielle) Ormsbee (Carter, Drake and Jaxson)  son, Jet, (deceased) (Margaret) Ormsbee and their family; Josh (Tiffany) Ormsbee (Jaidyn and Keaghan), Kami (Eric) Pierce (Connor and Bryn) and Tyler Ormsbee, daughter, Lois "Anne" (deceased) (Kim) Dennis and their family; Shaun Dennis, Whitney Hopp (Kayla), Cortney Dennis (Rylyn and Madix) and Ashley Dennis, daughter, Lori (Brian, deceased) Christopher and their family; Damon Christopher (Michael) and Kylee (Chad) Roberts (Kylynn and Kelsey), son, John (Betsy) Ormsbee and their family; Melissa Mitchell, Ryan (Dana) LaHaie (Reed) and Jennifer (Matt) Kelley (Easton), and daughter, Shelly (Tom) Woiderski and their family; Tom (Emily) Woiderski, II (Laney, Shelby, Gaverille and Lynkin), Lindsey Woiderski (Ryker), Lacy Czubaja (Liam) and Travis (Jacquelyn) Woiderski, two sisters; Lily Jones of Hartland, MI and Hattie (Max) Wells of Bronson, MI and many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife Lois, his son, Jet, his daughter, Anne and his son-in-law, Brian, Bud was preceded in death by two sisters; Margaret Ormsbee and Katherine Wells, one brother; John “Jack” Ormsbee and his great grandson; Thomas Craig Woiderski,III.

The funeral service will take place at the Church of Christ Restored on Sunday, February 25 at 1:00 pm with Apostle Leroy L. “Buddy” Ormsbee officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. A graveside committal service for both Bud and Lois will take place in the spring at Koehler Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of the Straits or Meals on Wheels through the Cheboygan Senior Center.

 Arrangements are being handled by the Nordman-Christian Funeral Home.
