Letha J. (Austin) Heitzner

April 14, 1932 ~ February 5, 2017 (age 84) 84 Years Old

Letha J. Heitzner, 84 of Petoskey, died Sunday February 5, 2017 at Mallard Cove in Petoskey.

Lee's family plan to remember and celebrate her life during a memorial service at Stone Funeral Home on Saturday, February 18th at 11:00 a.m., her family will begin receiving friends at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. and the service will be led by Pastor Tommie Rose.

Lee was born April 14, 1932 in Holly, Michigan to Earl and Hazel (Hubble) Austin. She grew up in Holly, Michigan and was a graduate of Eastern Michigan University. On December 19, 1952, she married Robert Heitzner in Detroit. In Lee's younger years, she loved to read anything that her nine brothers and sisters brought home from school, it was the start of her nearly lifelong love of learning and teaching. Initially after her marriage to Robert, Lee found work as a Librarian, it was a job she loved. Later she found her true calling in elementary education. Lee taught kindergarten through the third grade at the Jane Addams School in Redford, Michigan. She took every child into her heart as if they were her own, teaching them all she could. When she retired her nieces and nephews could count on receiving a book from aunt Lee every Christmas, and she always made sure the book would cover whatever topic was catching their interest at the time. When her sight began to fail, she would listen to the T.V. game shows, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy were always favorites because they both entertained and educated at the same time.

Aunt Lee was always there to lend a sympathetic ear on any topic of life, from the need for a good education, to searching for that new car or house. No matter what the obstacle life would throw in the way, Aunt Lee was always only a phone call away reminding everyone that things would always get better.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert and is survived by her brother Larry (Marilyn) Austin and by several nieces and nephews.
