Lillian Alice (Ross) Torsky

            Lillian Alice Torsky, 89, died August 23, 2016 at her home.

            Lillian was born on March 20, 1927, in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of George and Helen (Miskie) Ross. She grew up in Detroit and attended school there.

            Lillian knew George Torsky her entire life and were high school sweethearts. The summer after high school graduation, they were married. They remained happily married until George's death in 1999.

            The newlywed couple moved around for the first few years of marriage, while George was enlisted in the Army Air Force during World War II. In 1959, they moved to Mackinaw City and owned and operated a motel there for over 10 years, until they moved back to Detroit. After George's death, Lillian and her mother, Helen, moved to Petoskey.

            Lillian became involved in the Emmet County Friendship Center widow and widower support group, where she met many good friends. She was an extremely smart business woman, especially when it came to the stock market. Lillian could provide some invaluable advice when it came to stocks.

            Lillian is survived by her son, Greg (Connie Strouse) Torsky of Carp Lake; her daughter, Karen Torsky of East Lansing; grandchildren, Nicholas (Kristy) Torsky of Gaylord, Kasey Torsky of Fort Collins, CO., Gregory "Ross" Torsky of Grand Rapids; great grandchildren, Nicholas Torsky and Anna Torsky; and her special friends and caregivers, Dianne May and Chrissy May. Lillian was preceded in death by her husband, George Torsky and her parents.

            There will be a funeral service, Monday, August 29, at Stone Funeral Home starting at 11:30 a.m. with a one hour gathering time prior to the service. Reverend Dave Behling will officiate the service.
