Margaret Hughes Landman, 99 of Charlevoix, Michigan died April 11, 2018 at Mallard Cove Assisted Living in Petoskey, Michigan. Margaret was born January 25, 1919 in Antioch, Illinois, the daughter of Alexander Gibbon Hughes and Mabel Christopher Hughes. She grew up in Antioch and graduated from the University of Illinois, Urbana with a degree in Bacteriology. In 1950, she was married to Keith C. Landman in Antioch, Illinois.
Margaret is survived by her son James Landman of Parker, Colorado and her sister Joan Stewart of Antioch, Illinois.
After earning her college degree, Margaret worked as a medical technologist, performing tests and analyses on blood samples at various hospitals in the Midwest. After James’ birth, she became a stay-at-home mom. In 1982, Margaret and Keith settled on Cherry Street in Charlevoix.
Margaret was an accomplished home cook and took great pride in her soups, stews and baked goods. Her cinnamon pinwheels were much-anticipated holiday treats. She was an avid gardener, taking special delight in new spring blooms of crocus, daffodils, rhubarb and asparagus. She was an expert seamstress and knitter, well-known for her beautiful hand-crafted sweaters.
Margaret served for many years as a volunteer member of the Charlevoix Hospital Guild, frequently working in the gift shop.
