Marguerite (Thompson) Hampton

Marguerite Hampton, 96, of Cheboygan, went home to her Lord on September 26, 2017 at Bay Bluffs Emmet County Medical Care Facility in Harbor Springs.

Marguerite, the daughter of Floyd and Iris (Robb) Thompson, was born in South Bend, Indiana on May 27, 1921.  She moved with her parents and siblings to Michigan when she was young, spending her teen years in Alpena.  On February 20, 1939, she married Donald G. Hampton, also of Alpena.  Together they raised six kids.  After Don retired, they spent many years in Jensen Beach, Florida, eventually spending summers in Cheboygan with their daughter and family.

Marguerite was a homemaker which she loved.  She always had baked goodies in the house for whomever showed up and truly believed in “adding another potato to the pot” for unexpected guests.  As her children grew up, she became very involved in church activities and was a very devout Catholic Christian.  In 1994 she and Don moved permanently to Cheboygan due to Don’s failing health.  She was a member of St. Mary/St. Charles Catholic Church, and the Daughters of Isabella.

She is survived by her daughter, Cherie (Wayne) Precord of Cheboygan, three sons, David (Liz) Hampton of California, Richard (Sharon) Hampton of Minnesota, and Bill (fiancée, Chris Walker) Hampton of Michigan, two daughters in law, Mary Louise Hampton of Alpena, and Judy Hampton of Florida, two sisters in law, Patricia Thompson of Ossineke, and Margaret Sylvester of Alpena, 28 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Marguerite was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Don of 60 years, two sons, Donald Jr., and Thomas Hampton, a sister Iris Snyder, two brothers, Eldon and Turley Thompson, and a grandson, Robert Precord.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 1, 2017, from 2:00pm-4:00pm, and 6:00pm-8:00pm, with a scripture service and rosary led by the Daughters of Isabella beginning at 7:00pm., at the Nordman-Christian Funeral Home.  The funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, October 2, 2017 at 11:00am, with the family greeting friends beginning at 10:00am, at St. Mary/St. Charles Catholic Church.  Rev. Duane Wachowiak will officiate, burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
