Maurice Joseph Belanger

Maurice Joseph Belanger of Brutus MI and Naples, FL passed away at the Cottage of Davison in Davison MI on June 7,2017. He was born on May 13, 1934, the son of Homer and Mildred Belanger. On January 17, 1959 at St. Scholastica Catholic Church in Detroit, Maurice married Lucille Jokubaitis who survives. 

Maurice served in the US Army from 1955-1957.  He worked as a wood pattern maker for the Buick Division of General Motors and retired in 1992. Upon his retirement, he and Lucille moved from their Clio home to the home they built on Burt Lake and spent their winters in Naples, FL. He was an avid fisherman, gardener, furniture maker and tennis player

In Clio, he worked to develop a baseball complex for youth and convinced Vienna Township to lease property to build six diamonds and their dugouts, all work done by volunteers.  This is now the Clio Sports Complex.

Maurice was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Riggsville for which he built an ambris.  He also designed and built two pews for St. Clement Catholic Church in Pellston as well as an ambris.

Besides his wife Lucille, Maurice is survived by his daughter, Suzette (Randy) Kandow of Presque Isle, MI, two sons, Raymond (Tina) of Grand Blanc, MI and John (Sherri) of Goodrich, MI, grandsons Steven, David and Kevin (Meghan) Kandow, Matthew (Cathy), Johnathan (Cassie), Jacob, Joshua, and Joseph, great grandson, Michael Belanger and his brother, Andre. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Audrey Hooks, Cecilia Stedron and his brothers, Bernard, Leonard, Francis, Charles, and Ronald.

A memorial mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church on Saturday, June 17 at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Duane Wachowiak officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Sacred Heart Church, St. Clement Church or The Wounded Warriors Project. Arrangements are being handled by the Nordman-Christian Funeral Home.
