Welcome to the memorial page for

Nancy J Adams

February 8, 1935 ~ October 15, 2017 (age 82) 82 Years Old

Nancy Jean Adams (Mattson) of Boyne City passed away on Sunday, October 15th at Charlevoix Area Hospital. She was born Feb 8th, 1935 in Detroit Michigan, to parents, Carl Mattson and Taimi Mattson (Hackman). Growing up she and her sisters spent time skating at the Detroit Olympia/Joe Louis Arena where her father was the trainer for the Detroit Red Wings.

Nancy married Clarence Jerome “Jerry” Adams on Nov 20th, 1954 and started a beautiful family with her four daughters. In 1969 Nancy and Jerry moved their family from Farmington to Boyne City where they opened a pizza restaurant known as the Alpine Inn. Her pizza drew a crowd of all ages and offered the teens a place to gather and enjoy their sports victories in small town Boyne. She worked several years at Kaden’s Department Store and Heidi’s Hollyhocks Florist after the closing of the Alpine Inn. She and Jerry enjoyed participating in craft shows locally and around the eastern United States. Nancy was the promoter and organizer for Boyne’s 4th of July Craft Show for over 20 years. She had a love for cooking and the holidays. Family get togethers, which happen often, were filled with the smell of her pies and delicious meals that no one could turn down.

Nancy is survived by her daughters, Robin (David) Bricker, Leasa (Peter) Friedrich, Laurie Hoaglund, and Karen (Andy) Driver; two sisters Lila Hermanson (Mattson) and Karleen Gordinier (Mattson); sister-in laws, Betty McKay and Mary Deray; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her husband Clarence Jerome Adams; two son-in laws, Dennis Morrison and Neal Hoaglund; two grandchildren, Carrie Bricker Hauger and Jonah Hoaglund; and great-grandchildren, Phoenix Jerome and Wylie Sundance.

She and Jerry set a wonderful example of love for the entire family to follow. Adored by many and will be deeply missed.

Visitation will be from 6-8pm, Wednesday Oct 18th, at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Boyne City. Mass will be celebrated at noon on Thursday, Oct 19th, at St. Matthews with visitation from 11am until time of service.
