Nona and I met at the Alanson elementary school shortly after her family moved to Ponshewaing. Rosemary and Dick had just married. I enjoyed their exotic (to me) life style; Nona seemed to enjoy my family’s more traditional behavior, so we exchanged overnights frequently. We both finished high school in Petoskey and disappeared from each other’s lives. I am sorry about that, but love the memories from long ago.

God Bless you Nona for all of,your dedication and advocacy of the mentally ill. Thank you for being a voice for all of us. I have learned by working with,with you that, meeting a person where they are at and compassion sometimes is more valuable than how,many,letters are behind your name.. Your were old school,and didn't focus on all of the computers and the ever changing technology. You asked me the first day I worked with you my opinion. on a situation., That was important to me, You treated everyone equal,no matter what your title was. God Bless you.

Nona has been a hero to me. She was always a great support and advocate for my role as a social worker on the ACT team. Her work to provide community access and meaningful livelihood for those who had so much taken from them due to serious and persistent mental illness was incredible and unmatched in this community. I also recall with great fondness her sense of humor; I appreciated and valued her directness. Her stories about her life in New York among artists and poets that I admired were always illuminating and fun. I am so sorry for her passing but incredibly glad I was able to know her.
