Richard “Dick” Charles Dunn, 90, passed away peacefully, Friday, April 20, 2018 at Grandvue Medical Care Facility in East Jordan, MI. He was born August 24, 1927 to Ronald Clayton and Gertrude E. (Brandt) Dunn in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. He is preceded in death by Joyce, his wife of 66 years; his parents; brothers, Thomas and James Dunn, and good friend Marty Martinez.
Dick is survived by his sons; Steven (Donna) Dunn of Clinton Township, MI, Martin (Patty) Dunn of Macomb, MI, daughters; Janine (Chuck) Winkler of Boyne City, MI and Sandra (James) Binienda of Vanderbilt, MI.; 9 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, good friend Bobbie Martinez, and daughter-in-law Denise Dunn.
A 1945 graduate of Mt. Clemens High School, he served in the U.S. Army as a Tech 5, occupational counselor at the end of WWII.
He married Joyce Ann Almgren on October 30, 1948 at Kidder Memorial Evangelical United Brethren Church in Jamestown, NY. They lived in Jamestown, Mt. Clemens and Wolverine, MI., and he recently lived in Boyne City, MI.
At the AmVets Post 29 in Mt. Clemens, he was awarded “Best New AmVet” in 1958 signed by Maury Vincent who was an editor for the Macomb Daily (aka Monitor Leader). Dick was later awarded Life Member of Post 29.
Dick’s work experience began when he was growing up and assisted his father in surveying. He worked at Lehner’s Associates (1953-61) in Mt. Clemens, obtaining his Michigan Registered Land Surveyor license in 1960. In 1961 he started Richard C. Dunn Surveying , moving the business to Wolverine in 1970. He worked for Wade-Trim out of Gaylord from 1992-97. He continued his surveying business in 1997 until he retired in 2016. He was bestowed the honor of a Life Member to the Michigan Society of Professional Surveyors in 2008.
Dick’s needlepoint hobby was exceptional and he read the Detroit Free Press every morning enjoying its “The Daily Commuter” crossword puzzles.
A memorial will be held 4:00 PM Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at the Boyne City United Methodist Church. The family requests memorials be sent to Boyne City United Methodist Church, 324 S. Park Street, Boyne City, MI, 49712.
