Welcome to the memorial page for

Roger Dale Furgeson

May 16, 1945 ~ April 16, 2017 (age 71) 71 Years Old

Roger Dale Furgeson, 71 of Petoskey Michigan, died on April 16 at home surrounded by his loving family and his loyal pal Bandit.

He was born on May 16th, 1945 in Petoskey Michigan to Leroy and Anna (Beyer) Furgeson Sr. He grew up in Petoskey and attended Petoskey schools where he met the love of his life, Jacqueline Stowe. They were married on June 11, 1966 in Petoskey, Michigan.

Early in his life, he worked for several different plumbing and heating contractors before eventually starting his own business, Furgeson Plumbing & Heating, where he worked tirelessly until his retirement in 2005. He was very involved with his children growing up including being a 4-H Leader for the Blackbird Bunch and a Little League coach.

Roger believed very strongly in community service and he chose to lead by example. He was a long time member of the Resort-Bear Creek Fire Department and he donated both his time and money to a vast array of local charitable organizations including food pantries, little league and sports booster clubs, and suicide prevention programs.

His hobbies included gardening, woodworking, camping, attending market livestock auctions, going to his favorite Nascar races, watching his favorite Detroit Tigers, going to deer camp with his boys, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Church, Knights of Columbus, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years Jacqueline, his four children, Wendy Furgeson- Kuebler, Travis Kuebler, Mark Furgeson (Tami), Bridget Schrage (Craig), Nicole Wonnacott (Shawn) , his seven grandchildren, Amanda Foster (Eric), Brandon Furgeson, Skyler Kuebler, Luke Schrage, Trent Schrage, Wyatt Wonnacott, Kennedy Wonnacott, his three great- grandchildren, Mackenzie Foster, Owen Foster, and Arianna Foster. He is also survived by his five brothers, Leroy Furgeson Jr. (Nancy), Ronald Furgeson (Maria), Richard Furgeson (Brenda), Robert Furgeson, and Randall Furgeson as well as, many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Leroy Furgeson Sr. and Anna Louise Furgeson.

Because of Roger's passion for life and love of children, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Kiersten’s Ride, a suicide prevention program that helps at risk kids through the partnership of local schools. These contributions can be made through Stone Funeral Home. Otherwise, please feel free to make a donation to a charity of your choice.

There will be a visitation at St. Francis Xavier Church, April 20 from 4-8 p.m. with a wake service beginning at 7:00 p.m. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial the following day, also at St. Francis Xavier Church, at 10:30 a.m. with a one hour gathering prior to the service. Father Matthew Cowan will officiate the service.
