Roger Grandia

January 11, 1934 ~ July 27, 2015 (age 81) 81 Years Old

 

Roger D. Grandia, 81, of Indian River, passed away Monday, July 27, 2015 at home, surrounded by his family.

Roger was born January 11, 1934 in Chandler, Minnesota, the son of Dallas and Margaret (Kluis) Grandia.  He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Poconos from 1953-1957. He married his bride Christine (Chris) Humlinski of 53 years on June 30, 1962, they made their home in wolverine for 40 years until they retired, moving to Montana. It was their lifelong dream to live out west where Roger and Chris built their third home in Roundup.  He was employed as a carpenter, worked as a drywall finisher, he also traveled across the United States building log homes. 

He enjoyed traveling with his wife Chris and dog Zoey. He loved boating and fishing and reading western novels especially ones written by Louie L'Amour.  It was important to him to keep up with current events reading the Detroit Free press and finishing the crossword puzzles. He was also a big fan of the Detroit Tigers. He loved spending time with family and friends, fun loving and quick witted always getting people to laugh at his humor.

He was a member of the Onaway American Legion, and the Eagles Club of Indian River.

Surviving are his wife, Chris, three daughters, Denise (Kenneth) Lutz of Rogers City, Deborah (John) Dorosz of Gaylord, and Deana (Mark) Scott of Wolverine, four grandchildren, Natasha, Daniel, Nicole, and Brittney, a sister, Phyllis Mattson, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dallas and Margaret, also his brother, Milton Grandia.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 31, 2015 at 1:00pm, with visitation beginning at 11:00am, at the Lintz Funeral Home in Indian River.  Rev. Mike Haney will officiate, burial will be at Oakhill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Straits, or the American Cancer Society.
