Ronald Leon Barker

Ronald Leon Barker of Boyne City unexpectedly passed away on November 8th, 2017 at the age of 55. 

Ron was born August 26th, 1962 in Lansing, Michigan to Roy Barker and Beverely (Miller) Barker.  Ron graduated from Bath High School in 1980 and attended Lansing Community College for a couple of years studying Art.  He relocated north to start a career and begin a family in 1988.  Ron was employed by LexaMar Corporation for over 29 years.  He was a devoted, loving son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He participated in boy scouts, played high school baseball and basketball.  Ron enjoyed drawing and cartooning, building model cars and constructing creations out of Legos with his children.  He was avid collector of GI Joe action figures and was an enthusiastic sports fan especially of the Michigan State Spartans and Detroit Red Wings. Ron had a love for muscle cars and recently purchased a 1982 Trans Am with his son to restore; the same year he owned, drove and loved when he was in his 20s.  Ron was so proud of his kids and always bragged about their accomplishments.  He was a dedicated fan of his nieces and nephews at their sporting events.  Ron also had an awesome recollection and often shared humorous memories at cherished family events.  His huge heart and even bigger hugs will never be forgotten by his loved ones and friends.

Ron is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Debra Lynn. 

Surviving are his children, Kelsey Barker (William Axford II) and Roman Barker; a grandson, Trey Axford. Also surviving are sisters, Laurie (Dan) Reed, Leigh Barker, and Lynette (Glen) Stevens; nieces and nephews, Justin Reed, Rachel Reed, Rachel (Timothy) Light, Will and Gabe Stevens and his great niece Sydney Light.

A memorial service will be held 5:00 PM Friday, November 17th at Stackus Funeral Home in Boyne City with a gathering of family and friends being held from 3:00 PM until the time of service Friday.
