Russell L. Whittaker

Russell L. Whittaker, age 77, of Cheboygan passed away Monday, July 10, 2017 at his home. He was born January 14, 1940 in Cheboygan, the son of Stanley and Margaret (Cross) Whittaker. On February 3, 1968 in Indian River, Russ married Deanna O’Grady.

Russ, along with his dad and brother, owned and operated Whittaker Excavating. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and going to the casino.

Survivors include his wife, Deanna of Cheboygan, one son, Mark (Jenny) Whittaker of St. Paul, MN, two brothers, Bill (Ron Gusler) Whittaker and Stan Whittaker, both of Cheboygan, his sister, Shirley Reynolds of Iowa falls, IA, his brothers-in-law, Allen O’Grady of Rochester Hills, Darrell O’Grady of Cheboygan and Jerry O’Grady, also of Cheboygan, special sisters-in-law, Carol Whittaker and Vi O’Grady, his dear friends, Dave and Janet Landrie, several nieces and nephews and his best friends, his dog, Dexter and his cat, Gomer. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers-in-law, Marvin Reynolds and Mel O’Grady and his sister-in-law, Catherine Whittaker.

The funeral service will take place at the Nordman-Christian Funeral Home on Friday, July 14 at Noon with the family greeting friends one hour prior to the service.  Pastor Dave Wallis will officiate and burial will take place at Pinehill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or Hospice of the Straits.
