Sophie (Brach) Shields

Sophie Shields, 85, of Cheboygan, passed away Sunday, November 15, 2015 at Hospice House in Cheboygan

A lifelong resident of the area, Sophie was born February 19, 1930 in Inverness Township, the daughter of Leo and Louise (Burgula) Brach.  On April 22, 1950 in Cheboygan, she married Ronald Shields, who preceded her in death on July 21, 1986.  She had been employed by Fox Valley, the Family House Restaurant, and at Glen’s Market in the Deli, retiring in 2000. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and taking trips to the casino, and was a member of St. Mary/St. Charles Catholic Church, and was a former member of the Daughter’s of Isabella. 

Surviving are her twin daughters, daughter Janet Williams, and her children, Tonja(Rollin) Williams, Tinaya (Mark) Enos, and Tammy(Jeff) Williams,  and daughter Judy(Jerry) Bieske, and her children, Scott Bieske, Jamie and Jessie Bieske, and Carmen (Matt) Bieske, and her son, Joe Shields, all of Cheboygan, 9 great grandchildren, two brothers, Ted (Gertrude) Brach, and Bernard (Nancy) Brach, both of Dearborn Heights, a sister  in law, Dolores Brach of Cheboygan, and many nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ronald, a son in law, Dan Williams, six brothers, John, Frank, Leo, Joe, Tony and Felix Brach and four sisters, Victoria Pitera, Gertrude Broda, Mary Czalko, and Helen Grubinski. 

Visitation will be held Thursday, November 19, 2015, from 10:00am until the time of the celebration of the funeral mass at noon, at St. Mary/St. Charles Catholic Church in Cheboygan.  Rev. Craig Haider will officiate, burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Hospice House of Cheboygan, or Bishop Baraga School.
