Stephen H. Smith

Stephen H. Smith, 61, of Petoskey passed away July 10th.  Steve was born August 25, 1955 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Carl and Mary Jane Smith. 

Steve graduated from Petoskey High School and attended Northern Michigan University.  After leaving college he began working alongside his father in the family business, Hunt Roofing Company, which he later took over once Carl retired.

Steve is survived by his three children, Taylor Smith of Avon, CO, Charlie Smith of Petoskey and Natalie Smith of Petoskey and their mother, Penelope Matthews Smith of Midland, MI.  He is also survived by his sister, Cynthia Caponi, brother, Jeff Smith (Lisa), Aunt Shirley Smith and many nieces and nephews.

Steve is preceded in death by his sister, Karen Bodzick and parents, Carl and Mary Jane Smith.

Steve will be remembered for many things... his love for his children, his dog, Petey, and for anything with an engine. Over the years Steve proudly owned many boats, beautiful cars, motorcycles and snowmobiles. He was an accomplished skier... both snow and water. Nothing made him happier than cooking for friends and family, a Michigan State Spartan win, or listening to Natalie play her guitar.

Those wishing to honor Stephen's memory are asked to make a donation to the Little Traverse Bay Humane Society.

A private memorial service will be held July 15th in Petoskey.
