William Whittaker

William Nelson Whittaker, 82, of Cheboygan passed away Sunday, December 10, 2017.

William was born in Cheboygan on April 17, 1935. The eldest son of Uriah Stanley and Margaret Angeline Cross Whittaker.

After graduating from Cheboygan High school class of 1955, William attended College in Alpena.  He worked most of his life in the grocery business retiring from A&P.  While working for A&P he married Catherin Huskinson in Brighton.  He purchased and operated the Cobblestone Tavern in Beaverton.  After retiring for the second time William bought a home on Skidway Lake.  Thinking it would be a halfway point for family to travel from Northern Michigan and family from southern Michigan to meet for family reunions.  William loved to be around people and entertain.  In his later years, he was an avid reader of many different kinds of books, with a vast collection.  He also enjoyed going to yard sales, thrift shops and the casino.

William is survived by his loving partner of 27 years Ron Gusler, one brother Stanley Whittaker of Cheboygan, sister Shirley Reynolds of Iowa Falls Iowa., sister-in-law Deanna Whittaker of Cheboygan, and his dog Nannette.  Nephews Stanley Whittaker of Ovid, Ben Whittaker of Cheboygan, Mark Whittaker of St. Paul Minnesota. Russell Reynolds of Iowa Falls Iowa, and a niece Kimberly Kluesner of Iowa Falls Iowa. Also many great nieces and nephews.

William was preceded in death by his parents Stanley and Margaret Whittaker, his wife Catherine, brother Russell Whittaker, and a brother-in-law Marvin Reynolds.   

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at 1:00pm, with visitation beginning at noon, at the Nordman-Christian Funeral Home in Cheboygan.  Pastor David Wallis will officiate, burial will be at Pinehill Cemetery in the spring.
