Family Tribute
Sally was born on Grosse Ile, MI on January 12th, 1936 to Seymour and Ethel Affholter. Sally loved Grosse Ile and until recently would host Indian River area residents with roots at Grosse Ile. Dick and Sally met shortly after Dick graduated and Sally was a senior at St Patrick’s in Wyandotte, MI. They were married January 29th, 1955 on Grosse Ile and they recently celebrated their loving 66th wedding anniversary.
Dick and Sally first lived on Grosse Ile, MI and all of their children were born while they lived there. From there they moved to Trenton, MI and in 1970 they moved 5 children and a dog to Indian River. They lived in 3 homes finally ending up (until recently) on the south end of Burt Lake on the high banks. They loved hosting family gatherings including their famous 4th of July party / fireworks where it was common for over 30 people to attend.
Dick and Sally had an incredible loving and caring relationship that was an example for all that were witness. Sally loved and cherished her kids, grandkids and great grandkids with all her heart and her and Dick always loved on all of us. The last few years they loved taking the grandkids and great grandkids to Christopher’s Restaurant for lunch.
Sally passed away peacefully on March 4th. Visitation will be March 9th, 2021 at 10 am with funeral mass following at 11:00 am at the Cross in the Woods Catholic Church at 7078 M68, Indian River, MI 49749.
