Aarre "Antero" Lindholm Obituary

Aarre Antero Lindholm, 83, died unexpectedly on May 31, 2019.

Antero  was born September 6, 1935, the son of Johan and Vieno (Wiksten) Lindholm in Mäntsälä, Finland where Antero served in the Armed Forces.

In August of 1955, he married Sinikka Backman in Helsinki, Finland. The family immigrated to the United States in April of 1971 and settled in Petoskey where they made their home.

Once living in Petoskey, Antero began working at Kellogg’s Pottery until taking a job with the Petoskey Public Schools, where he eventually worked up to being the Head of Maintenance until his retirement in 1992.  Following his retirement, he bought a semi-truck and enjoyed traveling the country with his wife, Sinikka.

Antero was a lifelong learner. At the age of 65, he learned to fly and got his pilot’s license. He was a member of the experimental aircraft group in Harbor Springs and would give free trips to kids as part of the Young Eagle’s Group every year.

He will be remembered as being a Jack of All Trades. He would frequently buy old houses and apartments to have as renovation projects, and would do all the work himself. His family and friends will miss his sense of humor and his stories.

He is survived by his two children, Leila (Bryan) Griffin of Petoskey and Kari (Wendy) Lindholm of Davisburg, Michigan; grandchildren, Amy Lindholm and Erin Lindholm; and two sisters, Anja Sundell and Eila Lindholm. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sinikka; and by his brother, Onni Lindholm.

A memorial service celebrating Antero's life will be held on June 23, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Genesis Church in Petoskey.
